This week, I’ve been reflecting on what it truly means to show up for one another. Yesterday, our sister company, Luba Libations—named after my grandmother Luba—celebrated its one-year anniversary. The day was incredibly special and left me filled with gratitude. We were surrounded by new customers, longtime customers we first met through Door County Candle, fellow business owners, friends, and family. Some people showed up in person, while others reached out with kind messages, thoughtful notes, or words of encouragement from afar. Every gesture was meaningful and reminded me just how much showing up really matters.
Showing up doesn’t always mean physically being there, standing in a room and cheering someone on during a big milestone. Sometimes, showing up is sending that text before a friend’s important event, writing a note to let them know you’re thinking of them, remembering an important date, or offering encouragement when someone feels nervous. Sometimes, it’s celebrating a win with someone, even when you’re miles apart. It doesn’t have to be grand or elaborate; more often than not, it’s the small gestures that linger in our hearts the longest.
Life gives us endless opportunities to remind others that they are seen, loved, and supported. This past weekend was such a beautiful example. So many people showed up for us, each in their own way, and every gesture meant something heartfelt. It’s easy to underestimate the power behind a simple message, a visit, or just those four words: “I’m thinking of you.” But these things can reach deeper than we realize.
When we show up for others, we mark the moments that matter. We make joy grow even bigger, and we help lighten the weight of hard days. Most of all, we remind each other that none of us are truly alone.
So my reflection this Sunday is a gentle reminder: show up for others in the ways you can. It doesn’t need to be monumental. Sometimes, simple presence—giving your time, your words, your care—can mean more than you’ll ever know.
If you’re reading this, I invite you to think of one person in your life who might need a little extra support, encouragement, or celebration this week. Reach out, however you can. Send the message, write the note, make the call, or just let them know you’re there.
