Three years ago, we received a beautiful amaryllis as a gift. It arrived as a simple bulb, and with no real instructions, we placed it in a planter and began watering it. That first winter, it blossomed into the most stunning flower. Since then, we’ve tended to it faithfully, watering it and waiting patiently year after year for it to show signs of life again.
Then, just a few weeks ago, I noticed something incredible. After all this time, it was starting to grow again! A little green shoot was pushing its way up, and I was thrilled. I shared the news with Meg, one of our employees here at the candle company. When she took a closer look, she realized something we had completely missed: the bulb still had a wax wrapping around its base. That wax was preventing the roots from expanding and truly taking hold. Meg took the plant home with her. She carefully removed the wax and replanted the bulb in fresh soil, giving its roots the freedom they needed to grow.
When she brought it home with her, she said something that really stuck with me. She told me how resilient that little plant was. It showed that even when so much is holding you back, when the odds seem stacked against you, you can still find the strength to rise. You can continue to grow. And when you finally find yourself in the right environment, you can truly blossom.
This Christmas amaryllis has become such a powerful reminder for me. It’s a symbol of resilience. It reminds me that even when challenges try to contain us or stop our growth, our inner strength can push through.
During this season of light and hope, I hope this story brings a little warmth to your heart. It’s a gentle reminder to stay resilient, even when it feels like everything is working against you. Keep growing, keep pushing, and trust that you too will find your moment to blossom.
