As I reflect on this week, I’m reminded of the incredible power of persistence and hard work in turning our dreams into reality. Since I took over Door County Candle in June 2021, I’ve learned so much about what it really takes to create a thriving space for our amazing community.
When I bought the shop, the previous owner only opened on weekends during the off-season. With a heart full of hope, I envisioned transforming Door County Candle into a lively year-round destination. I dove into this adventure with determination, excitement and positivity.
A pivotal moment arrived just five months later, on November 1st, when we would keep the store open on a day it would typically have been closed. I was ready for a wave of customers, but instead, only one person walked through the door. It was a tough moment that made me question everything. But through that disappointment, I discovered a valuable lesson: success isn’t instant. It’s all about consistent effort, resilience, and adjusting plans along the way. Sometimes, you may think you have your path figured out, but in reality, you may need to take a slight detour to get to your destination.
Building our reputation as a year-round destination takes hard work and patience. It’s about sharing our story, connecting with the community, and showing up day after day, even when the results feel a bit discouraging. Every day is a new step toward a brighter future, and every setback is a chance to learn and grow.
This journey has truly shown me that persistence is the key to success. We must keep moving forward, believe in our dreams, and put in the hard work to bring them to life. Even when it feels like we’re facing challenges, let’s remember—we are not failing; we are on our way to achieving something wonderful.
So, let’s embrace the challenges, treasure the lessons we learn along the way, and continue to work toward our goals. Thank you for being a part of our Door County Candle family!
