Sunday Reflections ✨ 09.28.2025

Every Sunday, I take a moment to reflect on the small lessons life tucks into the corners of my week. Today, I want to explore something we all encounter but don’t always talk about—criticism, its sting, and the wisdom it can offer.

Not long ago, I noticed how easily someone’s words—whether a careless jab or a quiet judgment—can land heavier than intended. We do our best to rise above, but even the strongest hearts feel the ache. When I find myself bracing against harsh words, I try to remember the “mirror effect”: so often, criticism reflects the speaker’s own fears or insecurities more than it does anything about us. While it doesn’t erase the hurt, this perspective softens the impact and helps me keep my heart open, rather than letting it harden in defense.

But not all criticism is bad. Constructive criticism is good because it gives us the opportunity to grow and learn. It’s the negative, unkind criticism that isn’t helpful. When you’re on the receiving end, ask yourself: does this feedback help me improve, or is it simply meant to wound? And when you’re the one offering feedback, pause and reflect—do you compliment as much as you criticize? Striking that balance can transform the way we connect with others.

This week, I invite you to reflect gently: when criticism comes your way, try to see it through the lens of the mirror effect—it may reveal more about the giver than the receiver. And if you catch yourself being the critic, offer yourself compassion—ask what part of you feels tender and lead with kindness instead. Even the smallest acts—a kind word, a compliment, or choosing to lift someone up—can make a world of difference. While we can’t control the energy others bring, we can choose the light we offer in return.

Thank you for sharing this moment of reflection with me. Wishing you a week filled with kindness, understanding, and light.
