This Sunday, I want to take a moment to share a deeply personal story about someone who holds a very special place in my heart—my Dido, my grandfather. Many of you have heard about my Baba, my sweet grandmother, but not many of you know about my Dido. To me, he was my first soulmate and my guiding light.
Dido made me so proud to be Ukrainian. We spent countless hours together practicing Ukrainian, and each session filled me with immense pride and a stronger connection to my heritage. His encouragement and love for our culture profoundly shaped who I am today. When I launched the Ukraine candle, he was in my heart every step of the way. It’s his family we are connected to in Ukraine, and I know he would be incredibly proud of the difference we've made.
Dido passed away over five years ago, and today he would have been 95. Not a day goes by that I don’t feel his presence with me. His heart was the epitome of generosity and kindness. He had a giving spirit that always put others first, and he consistently taught me the importance of giving back, volunteering, and donating. His spirit was one of the most beautiful and selfless spirits in the world.
Daily, I find myself wishing Dido were here to witness the impact of our Ukraine candle and the impact of our company. I know he would be overjoyed to see the outpouring of support and the difference we've made. Yet, despite his physical absence, I feel him with me every day. His lessons on generosity and compassion continue to guide me, reminding me that those we love are always with us, even if we can't see them.
Every time we make a difference, give back, or make a positive change in the world, I feel Dido’s presence. His legacy lives on through our actions and the lives we touch. It’s a comforting thought that brings me peace and a sense of purpose. In moments when my heart feels heavy and I miss him, I channel that sadness into my commitment to spreading as much goodness in the world as possible.
So this week, I want to remind you all of the power of love and legacy. Our loved ones are with us every day, in every act of kindness and every effort to make the world a better place. Though we may not see them, their spirits guide us, inspire us, and fill our hearts with courage and hope.
Thank you for being part of this journey and for making a difference in ways big and small. Together, we honor the legacies of those who have gone before us, and we carry their light forward into the world.
