Sunday Reflections ✨ 04.14.24

Hi wonderful friends! This is a little different than my usual Sunday Reflections... but it's weighing on me and many others heavily.

As many of you may have noticed, Highway 42 is currently under the spell of road construction. While we wholeheartedly understand the necessity of these upgrades, and support the improvements for our community’s future, we’ve hit a bit of a bumpy road. I took the below photo on a Saturday! Before you think that this week's reflection doesn't apply to you because you're not local, I ask that you still read it to understand the difficulties we are currently facing because you are a part of our candle family. The road closure on Highway 42 is posing a threat to the survival of small businesses, putting their future prospects at risk for not just next year but even later this year.

The maze of “Road Closed” signs has been more than just a physical barrier; it’s become a confusing signal for our cherished customers and visitors. The clarity that we’re still open and eagerly waiting to welcome you seems lost amidst the sea of orange cones and detour signs. In the initial days following the construction kickoff, the number of smiling faces walking through our doors dwindled to a number we could count on one hand.

We want to clear up any confusion: Yes, we are OPEN (and so are the other amazing businesses here in Carlsville and Egg Harbor, especially our Carlsville neighbors Door County Distillery, Door Peninsula Winery, Red Oak Winery, Door County Coffee & Jandu Petroleum BP & Little Caesars Express)! Despite what the daunting signs might imply, local traffic to businesses like ours is allowed. We’re here, arms wide open, ready to greet you with the warmth, love, and gratitude you’ve always shown us. Our shop is still the same haven of joy and community it’s always been, perhaps now more than ever, in need of your support.

Here’s where we need your help: Please spread the word! Share this blog, tell your friends, shout it from the rooftops if you’re so inclined - we’re here, we’re open, and we can’t wait to see you. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor, chances are high that you know someone who will be visiting our county soon! Your support during this time means the world to us and helps not just our business but the vibrancy of our entire local area during these challenging times. We can all use your support!

Together, we can navigate these temporary obstacles and keep our community thriving. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued support, understanding, and spreading the message. We look forward to welcoming each of you with open arms and the biggest smiles. See you soon! 🌟
