This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about the ripple effect of our actions and words. How even the smallest things we do or say can grow into something much bigger than we intended. Sometimes for good, and sometimes, unfortunately, for not-so-good.
Recently, I found myself in a situation that really reinforced this. Someone chose to exchange some rude words with me and continued to speak negatively about me. It stung, not because of the words themselves, but because of what it reminded me. Words, spoken hastily or with malice, can burn bridges in an instant. Reputations that took years to build can be damaged overnight.
But here’s what struck me most during all of this. While they thought they were tearing me down, it was clear that what they were really doing was casting a shadow on their own character. Spreading negativity about others doesn’t lift us up; it dims our own light.
I think it’s so important to pause before we speak, especially when emotions are running high. Words, once out, can’t be taken back. And though we will never be perfect, choosing kindness even when it’s hard is truly one of the most powerful things we can do. Because people listen, people remember, and people are drawn to goodness.
My takeaway this week? If you find yourself tempted to speak in haste or anger, take a breath. Think about how your words align with the person you want to be. Words can tear down or they can build up—not just others, but yourself too.
Thank you for being here, for spending part of your precious Sunday with me. I’m grateful to share these reflections with you.
