Sunday Reflections ✨ 11.09.2025

Happy Sunday, everyone.

This week, I had an experience that’s stayed with me, and I wanted to share it. I was working the register at the candle shop, enjoying the easy rhythm of the day, when a customer walked in and remarked—loudly and not very kindly—on our “strange” choice to play holiday music in early November, as if I weren’t standing right there. I gently chimed in, sharing that we love the holiday playlist because many people only make it to the shop once a year, and we want it to feel cozy, festive, and fun.

A few minutes later when she was making a purchase, she spoke down to me, insisting the candles she chose were on sale—even after I’d already explained they were ringing up with the discount. When I clarified again, she rolled her eyes. The whole exchange left me feeling small and unseen.

It was a stark contrast to the countless other wonderful people we see each day—the ones who share a smile, ask about our day, and connect with us on a human level. Those moments are a beautiful reminder of a simple truth we can sometimes forget: we are all equal.

No one is above anyone else. It doesn't matter what our job is, what title we hold, or what role we play in the world. In the grand tapestry of life, each of us is a vital, worthy thread. We are equals, deserving of the same respect, kindness, and dignity. This idea is so simple, yet so powerful when we put it into practice.

So let’s remember to speak to people, not at them.

This week, I invite you to join me in a small practice of presence and humility. Let's try to make genuine eye contact with the people we meet. Let’s greet the cashier, the server, or the delivery driver by name if we can. Let’s remember that in every interaction, we have the chance to honor the equal worth of the person standing right in front of us.

Thank you for being part of this community.
