In this edition, we're spotlighting Liliko'i, a scent that began its journey as part of our mission to support meaningful causes and has since blossomed into a cherished part of our collection.
It's here where we dive deep into the journey of our candles, revealing the heartfelt stories that shape their fragrances. Today, we're taking a closer look at Liliko'i, a fragrance inspired by the vibrant spirit of Hawaii.
Our Liliko'i adventure began a few years ago with a visit to the Maui Ocean Center (MOC) Marine Institute, a place dedicated to preserving Hawaii's stunning marine life. It was there we met an extraordinary local Hawaiian who would shape the course of our Support a Cause candle—Honu Hero (Honu means turtle in Hawaiian). Aiming to capture the true spirit of Hawaii with our Support a Cause candle, we sought advice on a scent that could embody the island's lush landscapes and rich cultural heritage while raising money for sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation.
The conversation soon turned to Liliko'i, the Hawaiian name for passion fruit. Our new friend emphasized the importance of including the apostrophe in 'Liliko'i' to stay true to the Hawaiian language, a detail that resonated deeply with us. We were intrigued by the description of its captivating aroma, and were eager to experience it firsthand while on the island.
Taking this inspiration back to the mainland, we reached out to our fragrance supplier with a mission—to create a proprietary scent that could bring Liliko'i to life for everyone. The process was a fascinating exploration of creativity and collaboration, resulting in a fragrance that not only captured the essence of Liliko'i but also carried the warmth and resilience of the Hawaiian spirit.
Liliko'i transcended its role as merely a fragrance to become a symbol of cultural unity, embodying hope and serving as a beacon for positive change. Through our Honu Hero Support a Cause candle initiative, we successfully raised over $3,900 for the MOC Marine Institute. Additionally, our Liliko'i scented Maui candle helped raise more than $60,000 for Maui wildfire relief, demonstrating the impactful strength of community support and compassion. Though these two Support a Cause candles have gone back to the vault, the beautiful legacy they've created continues to shine brightly through our cherished Liliko'i candle.
